It was my love at first sight ! First reaction on reaching the place , I thought my dear friend has taken a revenge on me, to send me to such a place that too with my family., where the temperature was hovering around 2-3 degrees with very chilly winds. On the way Delhi & Haridwar had already given enough glimpse of what to expect at the place., yes I am talking about queen of the hill stations, Mussourie, in winter.
That was in year 2003 December, over the years I have fallen in love with the place as I find thin crowd in winter in Mussoorie, as it just chills you down with the icy winds coming down from Himalayas. I do find good number of health conscious locals and ‘Delhiwalahs’ sweating it out in the chilly weather, by jogging and brisk walking.
My family finds me a rather insane, if I insist visiting Mussourie every year in winter, as if there are no other places across India to visit during Christmas holidays. When I am away from Mussourie, I miss the mall road, gajar ka halwa and hot samosas
, just by the side of gun hill rope-way. During the winter lot of Tibetans flocks the mall road to sell the woolens for the travellers , to brave the icy winds. I also miss the coffee & death -by-chocolate cake, a delicacy which no one should miss at the Baristas during the chill weather.
I fall short of words to describe the Camel Road walk during the chill weather, it is to be experienced and enjoyed. The great Himalayan range & Shivalik range, is fully and clearly visible from the view point . One cannot forget the steaming hot chay cup at the view point with Mr. and Mrs. Bharadwaj, a Retd. Personnel from Army, who is kind enough to let us view the Himalayan range starting from Bander punch to Neelkanth through the powerful binoculars. Spending quite some time with him and his family exchanging the information about the visible peaks is quite an experience. The walk further ends at the library end, with horses greeting you at the entrance.December chill is to be experienced here at 7000 & odd ft MSL .
I am going to come back on this travelogue further ………….watch out ! Comments to this Post are Welcome .
